Intro:
In order to get 100 % juice of the sound of Taiwan's ocean, every time I went on field recording I always tried my best to avoid all the artificial interference: human sounds, car sounds, airplane and even dog's barks because of man's approaching. However, in Taiwan's environment it is almost like a mission impossible to record the clear, natural sounds of ocean. We tried our best, though. It was at noon when we drove back along the beach of Bai-sha after we had finished our mission. But the beautiful white beach and tender beckoning of the waves were so seductive that we had to get off with all our equipment again, under the hot sun of Hen-chun Peninsula. There were two parents and a child on the beach. I avoided them in setting up my machine, hoping this time it will be perfect clear and neat. But just 5 seconds after I pressed the record button, a group of young students suddenly surged up like waves with their laughter and shouts. I turned back to look at Su my co-worker. She looked back with a worried and embarrassed face. But there was something different in the air. My earphones brought to me the strange mixture of the young laughter and the natural waves. There was a little chemical change in my heart. Aren't people a part of nature? Wu Judy Chin-tai |
